What is the cost of living in UTS residences?

Residential fees
Other fees:

Residential fees

The residential fee is the cost of occupying a room and enjoying the residential facilities provided by UTS on:

  • 6 months basis - half year (26 weeks), or
  • 12 months basis - yearly (52 weeks).

Up-front payments in full attract a deduction of approximately one weekly payment.

Due to high demand for student housing, UTS give priority to students who apply for and sign a 12 month (yearly) residential agreement. This includes non teaching (holiday) periods.

Six month (half year) contracts are permissible for only those students who are completing their final semester of study, conducting research, or have other unique circumstances.

Other fees

All fees are reviewed and may change from the beginning of every calender year.

Application fee

Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable AUD$75 application fee, which covers 2 consecutive semester intakes. The fee covers the administrative costs of preparing your application and confirms your request for accommodation at UTS.

Residents selected to return to UTS after their first year in residence may be required to pay a re-application fee again.

This fee is non-refundable. That is, no refund will be paid to applicants who cancel their application, or whose application for accommodation at UTS is unsuccessful.

Security deposit

You are required to pay a security deposit of AUD$450.

The purpose of the security deposit is to ensure that all fees will be fully paid and all other obligations of residents properly discharged prior to moving out. The security deposit will be refunded at the end of your stay if the final inspection following departure is satisfactory, and all apartment and room furniture and fittings are considered to be of satisfactory condition, taking account of general wear and tear. Residents will be given an opportunity to inspect their rooms before moving in and to record any defects and request maintenance if required.

Parking security deposit

There are a limited number of parking spaces available at the rates listed with the residential fees.

If you are successful in renting a parking space, you will be the provided with 24-hour access to a secure parking space for your accommodation period.

You are required to pay a fully refundable parking security deposit of AUD$100 for your parking.

Data, telephone and voicemail connection fee

Each bedroom of UTS Residences (except Blackfriars) has a data point and a phone outlet. Students will need to arrange their own telephone and internet connection with an external provider.
