Students applying for, or living in, Student Residences accommodation can apply for a subsidy if they are struggling financially.

The application process requires you to:

  1. Complete UTS Student Residences Rental Subsidy Application Form (pdf, 110kb),
  2. Supply a copy of your License Agreement with UTS Residence, and
  3. Attend an interview with the financial assistance officer.

Eligibility

Australian citizens and permanent residents

The rental subsidies are only available to Australian citizens, permanent residents and holders of humanitarian or temporary protection visas.

Continuing financial hardship and Centrelink

Applicants are requested to provide proof of financial hardship by supplying:

  • Their Centrelink customer reference number, and
  • A copy of a recent letter from Centrelink advising eligibility and the amount of your fortnightly payment.
Students who have applied for Centrelink but have not yet been advised of eligibility are encouraged to apply as soon as possible - and provide your Centrelink letter when it is received.

Struggling financially

Even if you do not receive a Centrelink benefit you may be struggling financially and be taking on a greater paid workload commitment than your studies can afford.

You will need to provide proof of your financial difficulty with documented evidence (e.g. payslips with record of hours worked or tax returns).

Other exceptional circumstances may include medical costs related to an illness or disability, or sudden loss of employment - requiring documentation such as evidence of a change in your work and earning capacity, previous work receipts, a health care card or medical invoices in your name.
