Financial assistance with accommodation

Accommodation can be a significant expense while studying. A small number of programs providing financial assistance exist. These are designed for tennants facing genuine and sustained financial hardship.

  • NSW Housing

The NSW Family and Community Services have various programs to assistance eligible NSW residents. The most recent assistance program is called Housing Pathways (opens external site). Another program, the Rent Start program, assists persons who specifically are required to move from Public Housing into the private rental market.
  • UTS Residential Accommodation Fee Subsidy Scholarships

This program provides a subsidy scholarship of between $500 and $2000 for a semester for eligible residents of the UTS Housing service.
  • Relocation Scholarship

Students from inner-regional, rural and remote areas may be eligible for the Centrelink administered Relocation Scholarship assistance, valued at $4000 for first year of your studies, and $2000 for years two and three, reducing to $1000 thereafter. (The Relocation Scholarship was reviewed by parliament in September 2011, both extending the payment of the Relocation Scholarship to eligible inner regional students, and increasing payments to from $1000 to $2000 for years 2 and 3 of studies - as indicated here. Students from major cities who are relocating for study purposes may also be eligible - the payment rates vary from the regional and remote student body).
