The Department of Foreign Affairs provides emergency services for Australians who are overseas (including Australian students on an overseas study exchange, placement or field study), these services include access to Lifeline 24/7 telephone counselling.

Lifeline 24/7 telephone counselling
Lifeline 24/7 telephone counselling service provides crisis management (not therapy) for counselling needs in emergency situations.
The service is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
Consular Emergency Centre
Access Lifeline 24/7 telephone counselling service by phoning the Consulate Emergency Centre:
+61 2 6261 3305 (or the Centre's number from within Australia is 1300 555 135).
Telephone calls to the local Australian high commission, embassy, or consulate in various countries can also be put through to Lifeline in Australia for the cost of a local call. If it is after hours in the country from which the person is calling their call is automatically transferred to Australia.
