Many positions are advertised, but do you know all the different places to look? Companies have a lot of choice about how and where they advertise job vacancies. If you're an effective job seeker, you'll check all these possible sources regularly.
Places to find job ads and opportunities
The most well-known strategy for finding advertised jobs is to check the employment sections in newspapers. However, companies choose to advertise jobs in a range of other places as well. When you're looking for work you need to regularly check as many of these different sources as possible, regularly.
- Career services job vacancies listing
The Careers service advertises jobs:- on noticeboards at each UTS campus,
- through Jobs vacancies online (login required), and
- the Careers service office.
- Campus recruitment activities
Final-year students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to take part in the UTS Campus recruitment program. Here you can get information about and apply to potential employers through company presentations, careers fairs and campus interviews. - Company websites
Many companies publish current job vacancies on their websites. They also publish information about careers within their organisation. - Graduate publications
Graduate Opportunities and Graduate Outlook are two annual publications that identify companies who recruit graduates. - Professional associations
Professional associations are great networking opportunities and many now advertise jobs. - Industry related publications and websites
For example Travel Week and B&T Weekly. - Newspapers
Local and metropolitan newspapers have a job classifieds section. Very often the same information can be accessed either in the paper or on the newspaper's web site. - Magazines
Magazines such as City Weekly advertise some jobs. These magazines are usually given out for free at train stations and busy city locations. - Internet job-boards

- Employment agencies
Private and government employment agencies often advertise positions in both newspapers and on their websites.
