Mission Statement

The mission of the Student Services Unit is to provide an integrated professional service to students that:

  1. Supports and empowers them to achieve their study, health, personal and career goals;
  2. Advocates recognition and respect for their diverse cultural backgrounds and individual needs at all levels of the University; and
  3. Promotes the development of University policies and practices that respond effectively to the changing needs of students.

As well as providing direct services the Unit is involved in a number of "student development" programs that are designed to support students at critical / transition points eg orientation and first year support activities; in preparation for graduation and employment. Other programs are designed to assist students who may have special needs (eg international students, students with disabilities, students in UTS Residences) or be "at risk" of academic failure / underachievement (eg special entry students, students undertaking 'high failure' subjects, students placed on probation at the end of their first semester).

The activities of the Student Services Unit are:

  • Consistent with the University's overall mission of producing well-rounded graduates who are well-prepared for the world of work.
  • Integrated with the objectives and targets in the University's strategic plan that relate to supporting student learning and enriching their experience of university life
  • Both responsive to and give shape to many of the University's values eg excellence, equity, international perspectives and respect for / celebration of diversity, contribution to and collaboration with the professions and the community.
